The cost difference between locks is not that rigid, so you should always opt for some better locks for security. Bt, in the end, it depends on your budget. When buying a new lock, the set should have:

  • Mounting hardware
  • Turn assembly for the interior part
  • Deadbolt assembly
  • Steel strike plate
  • Key lock cylinder
a door handle and a door lock
Make sure to have all the parts

These are the most important parts of the locks you would want to buy. Now, if you have more money to spend on your home safety then you should consider buying some of the best home locks on the market. Because only that way you can be certain that your home is safe and secured.

The process

This process is fairly simple, all you have to do is get your #2 Philips screwdriver and get to work. There should be two visible bolts you can remove in the turn assembly plate. After that, you can remove the turn assembly itself. Now the deadbolt lock is free and you can remove it by hand. This will leave a hole in the door that you can see through. Now you should take a look at the side of the door. There should be two screws that are holding the lock in place. Use your screwdriver to remove the screws and then you can pull out the deadbolt with ease. Now it is time to insert the new lock. But this time, you are doing everything in reverse. But be careful when installing the new deadbolt.

Make sure that the deadbolt is facing up. Now, when you buy new locks, there are some labels on them, with one of those being “up”.  Once you insert the deadbolt in, screw in the screws. Finishing this up will give you more time to focus on other things in your post-move period. For instance, now you have enough time to deal with the post-relocation papers.

Test your lock

The last two steps are the final ones. Now, you will have to deadbolt lock in the place. make sure that you position the lock mechanism vertically. And on the indoor side, you will insert this bar that turns the lock. It is important to remember to orient the top side to the top. Now you should twist it and see the bolt holes.  Fasten them with the screwdriver and you are ready to go. Now all that is left is to test the lock. Make sure you have the keys with you at all times. Test it from both sides. And if that if everything is working fine then your lock changing is done. After everything is set and done, you have enough time to think about other tasks. Such as how to deal with leftover moving supplies for example.

If you plan to change locks on a new home then you shouldn’t stress yourself over it. The process is fairly simple and anyone can do it. Hopefully, this article helped you with this simple task. And if you wish to add something to it, you can leave a comment in the comment section.
